eBay wants its sellers to compete on price with its new Price Match Guarantee. This is the first time it will offer price matching on 50,000 items in the US with chosen competing retailers, including Walmart and Amazon.

The company claims to offer the best price on qualifying products. If it fails to do so, it will match chosen competitors’ prices. It won’t be marketplace sellers that will cover the cost when lowering prices on items, but eBay.
The items must be new and a part of eBay Deals selection to qualify for price matching. eBay Deals selection is an invitation-only program that groups products typically discounted 20-90% off the normal price. Over 900 of eBay’s sellers participate in the program.
The prices of eBay Deals items are already lower and competitive, but if a buyer finds cheaper options, eBay is happy to match the price of our select competitors. These include Amazon, Best Buy, Jet.com, the Home Depot, Sears Holdings, Target and Wayfair.
There are thousands of items offered through eBay Deals at 20-90% and featured deals are updated at least once a day. This move aims to drive more customers to eBay and become more competitive, which seems to be the right direction.
Thanks to the price matching initiative, eBay will provide its customers with more opportunities to purchase based on value. In other words …
eBay knows how to excite its consumers.
Price matching isn’t the first eBay initiative whose aim is to attract more shoppers to the marketplace.
For example, Guaranteed Delivery was announced in March. eBay customers were offered delivery in three days or less on approximately 20 million items listed on eBay.com. eBay wanted its customers to know exactly when their products would arrive to create happier customers and more sales.
Further, eBay Authenticate was launched as an advancement in safe shopping. Sellers and buyers could use a paid service to have products reviewed by a professional authenticator before the items are shipped.
eBay comes up with initiatives to be even more competitive and produce even more satisfied customers. The price matching program is likely to work to both buyers’ and marketplace sellers’ advantage.
Offering great prices and boosting consumer confidence seems to be the right direction for eBay.
Is there a possibility, however, that it will dominate the whole ecommerce landscape? As of now the competition is pretty strong, but in the world that we know today …. anything can happen.
